بزرگی فک بالا (Maxillary protrusion)
در بعضی موارد ممکن است فک بالا بزرگ و جلو قرار گرفته باشد که در اصطلاح به آن Maxillary protrusion گفته می شود . در این صورت برای عقب بردن فک بالا می بایست از دستگاههای خارج دهانی به نام هدگیر (Headgear) استفاده کرد که با کمک کش هایی که روی سر یا پشت گردن قرار می گیرد، می توان از رشد زیاد فک بالا جلوگیری کرد . دستگاههای هدگیر انواع مختلفی دارند که با توجه به نوع ناهنجاری می توان از هر یک از آنها استفاده کرد . این دستگاهها اصطلاحاً به انواع ذیل تقسیم می شود :
۱- Low pull headgear (cervical headgear)
۲- High pull headgear (occipital headgear)
۳- Straight pull headgear (combi headgear)
این درمان ها نیز می بایست در دوران رشد قبل از بلوغ انجام شود . در صورت عدم مراجعه بیمار در زمان مناسب (قبل از بلوغ) برای عقب بردن فک بالا نیاز به جراحی خواهد بود .
