دیپ بایت (Deep bite)
در حالت طبیعی دندانهای جلوی فک بالا باید در حدود ۲ الی ۳ میلیمتر از دندانهای فک پایین را از نظر عمودی بپوشانند . در صورت وجو دیپ بایت دندانهای قدامی فک بالا مقدار زیادی از دندانهای قدامی فک پایین را می پوشاند و بدین ترتیب دندانهای پایین کمتر از حد طبیعی دیده می شوند و در بعضی موارد ممکن است دندانهای قدامی فک پایین به بافت نرم کام برخورد نمایند و باعث آزردگی مخاط بافت نرم فک بالا شود . اشکال در تکامل فکین و یا رویش نامتناسب و بیش از حد دندانهای قدامی فک بالا و پایین و یا زمینه ارثی می تواند از عوامل ایجاد کننده دیپ بایت (Deep bite) باشد . عدم درمان می تواند عوارضی مثل آسیب به لثه در ناحیه جلوی دندانهای پایین (به دلیل تماس با لبه جونده دندانهای بالا) ، آسیب به کام (در اثر برخورد لبه جونده دندانهای فک پایین با کام) ، سایش زود هنگام دندانها و یا بروز مشکلات گیجگاهی فکی (TMJ problem) و ظاهری ناخوشایند ایجاد نماید . درمان زود هنگام (قبل از بلوغ) در درمان دیپ بایت از اهمیت بالایی برخوردار است . اگر بیمار قبل از بلوغ مراجعه نماید با دستگاههای متحرک و ثابت ارتودنسی می توان به راحتی دیپ بایت را درمان کرد . در صورت مراجعه بیمار در سنین بالا (بعد از بلوغ) نیاز به جراحی فک خواهد بود .
